Sarajevo students in action: Collecting aid for refugees from Syria

The youth movement Studentski pohodi and the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo are organising a campaign to collect aid for refugees from Syria.

The aid collection campaign - money, food, clothing and hygiene products - will be held from 15 to 26 September, reports the Patria news agency.

Collection stands will be set up in front of the Faculty of Economics building, on the square in front of the Cathedral, on the plateau in front of the Fourth Gymnasium in Ilidža, in front of Amko Komerc in Otoka, and in Dobrinja from 12:00 to 19:00.

At the stands, citizens will be able to donate money by purchasing stickers worth 1 KM, 2 KM and 5 KM, while the central collection point for food, clothing and hygiene products will be at the University of Sarajevo Campus from 10:00 to 19:00. All volunteers participating in this campaign will be accredited.

Money collection boxes will also be placed in faculty buildings.

According to information from the field, the refugees currently most need hygiene products (soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, antibacterial gel, diapers, sanitary pads, toilet paper, band-aids), clothing and footwear, blankets, socks, underwear, raincoats and sleeping bags, and it is not advisable to donate perishable food items such as dairy products.

After the campaign ends, a group of students will travel to Belgrade, where they will distribute all collected aid to the refugees. The departure to Belgrade is planned for 27 September.

The youth movement Studentski pohodi and the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo have organised aid campaigns before. In the campaigns to provide aid to the population affected by floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina in May last year, around 3,500 students participated.
