Sarajevo: Institute of Criminology Offers Cooperation to Law Enforcement Agencies in BiH

The Institute of Criminology, Criminology and Security Studies from Sarajevo sent, on Wednesday, a proposal for an agreement on scientific, educational and professional cooperation to law enforcement agencies in BiH, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The Institute is asking law enforcement agencies for greater institutional cooperation in the field of science in the area of crime control in BiH.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been facing a high crime rate and complicated legal procedures in the field of crime prevention for several years. However, all of this, experts warn, would be greatly reduced if there were better cooperation between law enforcement institutions and scientific institutions in the country, writes NAP.

Muhamed Budimlić, director of the Institute of Criminology, Criminology and Security Studies Sarajevo, speaking on Wednesday at the round table "Improving cooperation in the field of science in the area of social control of crime", held at the Sarajevo Faculty of Criminology, said that the first step has been taken towards establishing stronger institutional cooperation between scientific institutions and law enforcement agencies in BiH.

If at least part of the planned goals are fulfilled, the crime rate in the country could be significantly reduced.

- A new, important step has been taken towards improving cooperation between theory and practice, between science and institutions - Budimlić told Patria.

- So far, we have had individual cooperation with the police, prosecutors, and judges. But now we want to establish better cooperation between the Institute as the bearer of science at the Faculty, and the institutions that are on the line of making or enforcing laws, in order to define topics that they consider important, and our interest is to actualize them through research, that is, to bring our research into the service of needs.

Over the next two months, the Institute will openly discuss this topic with police structures, but also with media representatives, so that all together can contribute to the fight against crime in BiH.
