Saint Petersburg: Passenger bus falls off bridge into river, with injured and fatalities

(Patria) - A passenger bus fell today from the Pochuyev Bridge into the Moyka River in Saint Petersburg, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

The accident occurred today around 1 PM, and according to preliminary data, there were about 20 passengers on the bus.

The Russian Investigative Committee announced that there are dead and injured in the accident.

According to the City Transport Committee, the bus driver lost control while turning from Bolshaya Morskaya Street towards Pochuyev Bridge, the vehicle spun around, broke through the railing, and fell into the water.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region announced that the driver has been taken to the police.

Emergency service specialists are pulling people out of the river, and 69 people are participating in the rescue operation.

City Governor Alexander Beglov said that emergency aid is being provided to the victims. They have been sent to medical facilities.

Rescuers, emergency services, as well as employees of the city administration and the health committee are engaged at the scene.

The Prosecutor's Office of Saint Petersburg is working to clarify all the circumstances of this unfortunate incident.
