Sanitary Inspectorate Orders Central Kitchen Employees to Undergo Parasite Analysis

Following a report from the KS Public Health Institute regarding suspected food poisoning at the Public Institution 'Djeca Sarajeva' yesterday afternoon, a team of sanitary inspectors from the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs and representatives of the KS Public Health Institute conducted a joint inspection. Inspections were carried out in the premises of the Central Kitchen in Mojmilo, as well as in the 'Skenderija' Kindergarten, announced the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

During the inspection, a detailed examination of the premises was conducted, and a total of 20 swabs were taken from work surfaces, utensils, and employees' hands, as well as 11 food samples, including 4 control samples from Monday to Tuesday. The inspection continued today, and so far, all 14 employees of the Central Kitchen have been examined, and they have been ordered to undergo stool tests for parasites. In addition, all vehicles and dishes for food distribution will be inspected today.

For now, we can state that:
- The hygienic-sanitary condition of the facility at the time of the inspection meets the conditions prescribed by law;
- All employees have valid health cards obtained based on examinations conducted at the KS Public Health Institute;
- Disinfection, disinsection, and deratization are regularly carried out in the facilities;
- Laboratory analyses of food from this and all other kitchens within the Public Institution 'Djeca Sarajeva' are performed weekly;
- Swabs from work surfaces, utensils, and employees' hands are also taken weekly, and according to analyses conducted so far, they are satisfactory;
- They have a contract with the KS Public Health Institute for the continuous provision of these services.
- During the inspection, it was determined that food samples are stored for 72 hours in the Central Kitchen of the Public Institution 'Djeca Sarajeva' and have been taken for analysis.

We note that the last inspection of the Central Kitchen facility in Mojmilo was carried out on December 23rd last year, and the findings were satisfactory. Since the analyses of the taken samples are not yet completed, we are unable to comment on the possible causes of poisoning at this time.

We also add that a food business operator is obliged to conclude a contract with an authorized laboratory for regular control of food safety, which they are required to perform once a month, and which the inspection verifies during supervision.

We remind that more than 50 children were admitted to KCUS, and more than 20 of them were hospitalized. The children have fever, diarrhea, are dehydrated, and have general weakness. Fortunately, no children are life-threateningly ill.
