Sanchez: Israel wants to destroy Lebanon as it did in Gaza

(Patria) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of seeking to inflict the same level of damage and destruction on Lebanon as Israeli forces have inflicted on the Gaza Strip.

Sanchez explained his government's stance on the US-Israeli war against Iran in Parliament today.

"More than four million people have been displaced in Iran and Lebanon (since the start of the war). Encouraged, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu (Benjamin, editor's note) aims to inflict the same destruction and suffering on Lebanon as has been inflicted on Gaza. The cruel and illegal response of the Iranian regime towards neighboring countries, which we, of course, condemn and reject, because one illegal act cannot be answered with another," Sanchez said.

He also criticized the new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei.

The Spanish leader also emphasized that the US and Israel are "bringing insecurity to the Gulf countries," which, according to him, have become extremely vulnerable due to the decisions of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Sánchez also accused the US and Israel of strengthening the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin in his all-out invasion of Ukraine. He explained that Russia is financially profiting "thanks to rising fuel prices and the lifting of sanctions, for which the US administration is also responsible".

Spain refused to grant the Americans the use of the Rota naval base and the Morón air base, both located in Andalusia, which led Trump to state that Spain "does not have great leadership".

However, Trump's criticism did not waver Sanchez in his stance.

"Being an ally or a friend means being loyal to the principles we share," he told lawmakers.

"It means having the courage to stand firm when one goes down the wrong path."
