Salić: The situation at the Pazarić Institute is catastrophic, police agencies have been notified

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Upon arriving at the Institute for the Care of Mentally Disabled Children and Youth Pazarić, I found a catastrophic situation, Redžep Salić, the Director of the Institute, who has held this position for four months, told reporters at the FBiH Parliament. 

The Institute's work report is on the agenda of the fourth regular session, and according to the deputies' announcements, it will almost certainly be rejected.

“Children and residents at the Institute live in very poor conditions, and the employees, who are heroes, work in impossible conditions with very low salaries. Upon arrival, I found an extension at the Institute, and on just one building constructed without any building or urban planning permits, there is a difference of 300,000 KM in the execution of works. In fact, it is only a roof, not a building, and the difference was determined by a court expert,” Salić stated. 

He added that he had informed the FUP, SIPA, and the Prosecutor's Office of BiH about everything. 

“What I saw is that the children have three meals, and they haven't changed in 15 years for me. I couldn't believe that people treated children in such a way. New houses built with donations and funds from the ministry and the Institute lack insulation, so children live in dampness. Not a single facility built in the last 10 years has urban planning or building permits,” Salić stated. 

According to him, the crime and poor treatment must be investigated and corrected. 

“If I only focus on that, I will forget about the 349 residents, aged three to 83. I have completely turned things around and want the Institute to meet European standards and for the residents to live a life worthy of a human being,” Salić concluded.
