Šahić on Hodžić's charity work, who left a million KM for soup kitchens: The spending of money will be controlled

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - During its 105-year-long mission of charity, the Muslim charitable society "Merhamet" has had its benefactors, good people and humanists who valued "Merhamet's" work and wished to help their poor and socially endangered people in Bosnia and Herzegovina through this humanitarian organization.

One such person was Agan Hodžić, who spent his working life in Canada and decided to donate the savings he painstakingly acquired there for charitable purposes.

Agan passed away in 2014, and his wish to help others was recorded in his will, which states that one million convertible marks are to be divided into three equal parts, of 384,329.18 KM each, for "Merhamet's" soup kitchens, for the "Stari Grad" Soup Kitchen in Sarajevo, and the "Red Cross" kitchen.

The President of the Humanitarian Organization "Merhamet" MDD, Hajrudin Šahić, points out that "Merhamet" visited Agan Hodžić on several occasions.

- He was interested in "Merhamet's" activities, expressed a desire to help the work of our kitchens, and indicated that he would donate part of the money for these purposes. There are few people like Agan Hodžić who left all his savings to soup kitchens, in order to provide better quality meals for socially endangered citizens. We are grateful to Agan for his valuable donation and pray to God to grant him paradise. This humane gesture is the best lesson for those who wish to follow his example - said Šahić.

According to him, "Merhamet" has committed to fully fulfilling Agan Hodžić's wish, as stated in his will.

- The spending of funds will be controlled by the executor of the will, Enver Ahmetspahić, a member of Agan's immediate family. As for the amount received by "Merhamet", the will precisely lists which "Merhamet" regional boards are to receive a portion of the funds and in what percentage. The funds will be used, according to the donor's wish, exclusively for the purchase of groceries for preparing meals in our kitchens for the most socially endangered categories of the population - said Šahić.

Agan Hodžić was born in 1932 in the village of Kovanj near Rogatica. He spent the last few years of his life, after returning from Canada, at the Gerontology Center Nedžarići, in Sarajevo.
