US in the Sign of the Slogan 'No Kings': Mass Protests Against Trump

(Patria) - Mass protests against President Donald Trump under the slogan 'No Kings' began this weekend in dozens of American cities, reports the BBC.

At the iconic Times Square in New York, thousands of citizens gathered as early as Saturday morning, with streets, sidewalks, and even subway entrances flooded with demonstrators.

Many carried signs with messages like 'Democracy, not a monarchy' and 'The Constitution is not an option,' while the air was filled with the sounds of drums, whistles, and chants:

'This is what democracy looks like!'

According to organizers, around 100,000 people gathered across the city, although it was not specified whether that number refers only to Times Square or includes other city boroughs. Police officers estimate that more than 20,000 people marched down Seventh Avenue.

Peaceful protests, strong reactions from Trump's allies

Although all gatherings remained peaceful, Trump's allies accused organizers of ties to the far-left Antifa movement, calling the events 'anti-American hate rallies.' Organizers and participants firmly reject this, emphasizing that it is a civic expression of discontent and a defense of democratic values.

'I care deeply about New York. It gives me hope to be here with so many other people,' said Beth Zasloff, a writer and editor, who says she is protesting because of the 'shift toward fascism and authoritarian rule' under the Trump administration.

Trump: 'I am not a dictator, I am rebuilding the country'

Since returning to the White House, Trump has, according to reports, expanded the interpretation of presidential powers, using executive orders to block congressional decisions, dismantle parts of federal agencies, and deploy the National Guard to cities despite opposition from governors.

Trump, however, rejects accusations that he is a dictator.

'My actions are necessary to rebuild a country in crisis,' the US president stated, while his critics warn that some actions are unconstitutional and pose a threat to the democratic order.

In Washington, the main speech was delivered by Senator Bernie Sanders, who said:

'We are not here because we hate America, but because we love it.'

A man wearing a red MAGA cap ('Make America Great Again') was also spotted at the protest, saying he came 'just to see what it was about.' Although, according to him, most of those gathered were polite, witnesses report that a brief verbal altercation with a female participant soon occurred.

Waves of solidarity also in Europe

In a show of support for American demonstrators, people also took to the streets across Europe – in Berlin, Madrid, Rome, and in front of the US embassy in London, hundreds of people gathered with signs of support.

As protests unfold across the US, Trump, after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, traveled to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

According to footage from US media, the president was seen in a motorcade heading toward West Palm Beach, where he spent the day playing golf.
