SARAJevo, (Patria) - The United States (US) has requested a public session of the United Nations (UN) Security Council on Monday regarding the crisis around Ukraine due to, as stated, Russia's threat to international peace and security.
US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that more than 100,000 Russian soldiers have been deployed on the Ukrainian border.
"Russia is also carrying out other acts of destabilization towards Ukraine, which represents a clear threat to international peace and security and the UN Charter," she said, agencies report.
The US and its allies fear that Russia is planning an invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow denies, stating that it has no "warlike intentions".
However, Russia is seeking security guarantees from the US and NATO, and that Ukraine does not become a member of the Alliance.
