(Patria) - The Biden administration is working on further tightening restrictions on the export of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China, Bloomberg News reported, citing Reuters. The government has informed US companies of the plan and told them it expects to announce the restrictions as early as next month, the report said.
The Biden administration plans to coordinate with the Netherlands and Japan, the report said.
This week, the Dutch government announced plans for new restrictions on semiconductor technology exports to China to protect national security. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday that China strongly opposes restrictions as a means of "interfering with and restricting normal economic and trade exchanges between Chinese and Dutch companies.".
The US introduced a series of export restrictions late last year, including a measure to cut China off from certain semiconductor chips made anywhere in the world with US equipment.
