US Confirms Continuation of Military Aid to Israel Despite Judicial Reform and Protests

(Patria) - The US State Department announced that there will be no cuts or suspension of military aid to Israel after the hard-right government ratified initial judicial changes that critics fear will undermine the independence of the courts, Reuters reported.

"There will be no reduction or suspension of military aid, and that is because our commitment to Israel and our commitment to Israel's security is ironclad," Deputy State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters.

The United States has provided Israel with various forms of assistance for decades, including military aid. During the current fiscal year ending in September, Washington provided Israel with $3.8 billion in aid. This includes a portion of the regular annual aid that former President Barack Obama designated in 2016 to be paid annually to Israel until 2026, amounting to $3.3 billion.
