(Patria) - The United States has accepted a luxury Boeing 747 aircraft as a gift from Qatar.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth approved the acceptance of the $400 million aircraft, Reuters reported yesterday.
He tasked the US Air Force with finding a way to quickly upgrade it for use as the new Air Force 1 – the official aircraft of US President Donald Trump.
According to the agency, legal experts have questioned the law concerning gifts from foreign governments, which aims to prevent corruption and undue influence.
Trump himself dismissed ethical concerns, saying it would be "silly" not to accept the plane. The Qatari government also dismissed concerns.
