(Patria) - The US has secretly approved and sold or delivered military equipment to Israel more than 100 times since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, writes "The Washington Post", which calls it a "flood of deliveries".
The American newspaper cited information recently presented to members of Congress by unnamed US officials during a secret briefing.
Israel has received thousands of pieces of precision-guided munitions, small-caliber bombs, missiles for targeting underground bunkers, small arms, and other military materiel.
All of this shows the extent of Washington's involvement in the five-month conflict, even as top US officials and lawmakers increasingly express reservations about Israeli military tactics in an offensive that, according to local health authorities, has killed more than 30,000 people in Gaza.
Since the start of the war, only two approved US sales have been made public - tank ammunition worth $106 million and components for making 155mm shells worth $147.5 million.
These prompted public scrutiny because the administration of President Joseph Biden, citing urgency, bypassed Congress, which was supposed to approve the sales.
Officials said each sale was below the threshold stipulated in the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) law, so only Congress was notified, but not the public.
The US has provided extensive assistance to Israel, even as senior US officials complain that Israeli officials have not heeded appeals to reduce civilian casualties, allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza, and refrain from rhetoric calling for the permanent displacement of Palestinians.
