US, South Korea, and Japan Concerned About Russia-North Korea Military Cooperation

(Patria) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, along with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts, expressed "serious concern" over discussions of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, including possible arms trade, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.

Blinken, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa agreed during a brief meeting on Friday to respond decisively to any acts that threaten regional security by violating UN Security Council resolutions, the ministry said, Reuters reported.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia last week and discussed military cooperation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

US and South Korean officials have expressed concern that the summit was aimed at enabling Russia to acquire ammunition from Pyongyang to replenish its supplies for the war in Ukraine.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on Wednesday that it would be a "direct provocation" if Russia were to help North Korea improve its weapons programs in exchange for assistance for its war in Ukraine, and that Seoul and its allies would not stand idly by.
