(Patria) - The US State Department has approved the sale of $346 million worth of weapons to Nigeria to improve security in the African country, the Pentagon announced.
Congress has been informed and needs to approve the sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced.
The weapons requested by Nigeria include ammunition, bombs, and missiles, AP reports.
"The proposed sale will enhance Nigeria's capability to confront current and future threats through operations against terrorist organizations in Nigeria and the wider Gulf of Guinea," the Pentagon stated.
In the past 10 years, Nigeria has purchased military equipment from the US on several occasions. In 2022, the US approved the sale of weapons worth $997 million.
