TRAVNIK, (Patria) - The judge for preliminary proceedings of the Cantonal Court in Travnik ordered one month detention for Nermin Rustempašić, who hit a woman and four children with his car while intoxicated on Friday evening in the center of Novi Travnik.
Azra Hajrić (30) died at the scene, followed by her 9-year-old daughter Alma. Three children were also injured in the accident, the deceased's son Eldar (4) and two sons of the chief imam of Novi Travnik, Haris Amidžić, Jusuf and Davud. The children are out of danger.
Rustempašić was handed over to the jurisdiction of the Travnik-Zenica Canton Prosecutor's Office this morning. Detention was ordered due to the risk of flight, the possibility of obstructing the investigation, committing the criminal offense again, and public disturbance. Rustempašić had more than three per mille of alcohol in his blood, and he was previously known for reckless driving through Novi Travnik.
Two days of mourning have been declared in Novi Travnik, and concerts and the Christmas program have been cancelled.
Azra and Alma Hajrić were buried today in the village of Kasapovići near Novi Travnik. They are survived by their husband and father Mirnes, and son and brother Eldar.
