Russian spies arrested in Switzerland, allegedly preparing activities for Davos Summit

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Swiss police arrested two Russian intelligence officers in Davos in August last year.

Police suspect they were preparing espionage activities during this year's World Economic Forum.

According to Swiss media reports, the arrested Russians had diplomatic passports and were released shortly after the arrest, the BBC reports, adding that one of them posed as a plumber.

The Russian embassy in Bern said the media is trying to create a scandal out of nothing and that they learned about the incident from the media, adding that they have no information that two Russian citizens were questioned in August.

The Davos Forum opened on Tuesday.

According to reports, the police of the canton of Graubünden became suspicious when they received information that the two Russians intended to stay in Davos, an expensive ski resort, for three weeks, but it was not explained what exact espionage operations they were carrying out.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the Russians were checked and added that many people were only checked.
