Russian mercenaries involved in crime even after the war!

Volunteers from Russia and Greece who took part in the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina were involved in criminal and terrorist activities even after Dayton, stated for the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) Aziz Tafro, author of the book „Russian and Greek mercenaries in the war in BiH“. The promotion of the book, which deals with an extremely interesting topic, is planned for today at 18:00 in the large hall of the Novi Grad Municipality.

- The first arrivals were recorded as early as 1991 in eastern Herzegovina, all the way until 1996 when the Greek volunteer guard ceased its operations. The book follows the course of their activities, the formation of units, and tracks the battlefields in Višegrad and Sarajevo. We follow all the evils they committed during the war, and also after the war. The cemeteries of Russian and Greek mercenaries are clear evidence of their stay in BiH. Although they can be found at several locations, one of the more well-known is in Donji Miljevići near Sarajevo – Tafro states.

It is precisely in the cemetery in Donji Miljevići that the commander of the third volunteer detachment, Aleksandar Škrabov, is buried. He commanded that detachment within the Army of Republika Srpska from 1994 to 1995 until his death. This is just one of the details from the book. Another cemetery is located in Višegrad, where a central monument to Russian mercenaries was opened in 2011.

According to Tafro, after the war, Russian volunteers were engaged in demining projects, and at the same time were involved in criminal activities and terrorist acts. Research conducted by Tafro has shown that one of the Russian mercenaries, after the war in BiH, went to the Russian Federation and there mined a train, for which he was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

One of the Russian volunteers lives in Bosanski Šamac and works on demining projects that were financed after the war by the United Nations and the European Union.

- They received our citizenships, abandoned property was distributed to them, and then most of them went to Serbia, returned to Russia. And, re-entries into BiH have been recorded, and it is time to investigate those granted citizenships. And how was that even possible - says Tafro.

According to Tafro, the research lasted three years. Sources of information used included the electronic archive of the Hague Tribunal, field sources, documents he either purchased himself or received from his sources in Serbia.
