Russian drones entered Polish airspace, Poles shot them down: All services are in action

(Patria) - The Polish army reported early this morning that it shot down drones that violated its airspace during a Russian attack on neighboring Ukraine.

"Weapons have been deployed and services are actively working to locate the downed objects," the Polish Operational Command said. They added that a military operation is underway and called on residents to stay in their homes.

Poland is a member of the NATO alliance, a transatlantic defense pact involving the United States, which applies the principle that an attack on one is an attack on all.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the operation is "ongoing," while the military claims it is searching for drone debris.

Four airports were temporarily closed, including the main Warsaw Chopin Airport and Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, a hub for passenger and weapons transfers to Ukraine.

"An operation to neutralize objects that violated and crossed the border of the Republic of Poland is underway over Poland. State authorities, namely the President of the Republic of Poland and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, have been informed. All services are in action," said Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk.

In a brief public statement, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he received the report on Russian drones directly from the commander of the Polish army.

"An operation involving multiple violations of Polish airspace is underway. The military used weapons against targets. I am in constant contact with the president and the defense minister. I received a direct report from the operational commander," wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

He also said he informed the NATO Secretary General about everything.

"I informed the NATO Secretary General about the current situation and the actions we have taken regarding objects that violated our airspace. We are in constant contact," he said.

In parallel with Tusk, the National Security Bureau of Poland, headed by the country's President Karol Nawrocki, also issued a statement.

"President Karol Nawrocki is regularly informed about the situation regarding the violation of Polish airspace. Please follow announcements and rely on information from the strategic commands of the Polish Armed Forces and other services. We express our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in protecting the Polish sky. We also ask everyone to remain calm," they concluded.
