(Patria) - Russian companies will partially redirect liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Europe to friendly countries, without waiting for further European Union restrictions, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters, TASS reported.
"Our companies are considering the possibility, without waiting for further restrictions from Europe, to conclude new long-term contracts with our partners, to partially redirect gas from Europe to other countries, including India, Thailand, the Philippines, and the People's Republic of China," Novak said.
The Russian government has discussed President Vladimir Putin's order with the companies and "a decision has been made to redirect part of the liquefied natural gas quantities currently supplied to Europe, to European markets, to other markets, regardless of whether there is a need, where meaningful and pragmatic relations are currently being built with us and where we have long-term demand and the possibility of concluding long-term contracts," Novak said.
