Russian UN envoy: US condemned thousands to death by vetoing resolution

(Patria) - The United States has condemned thousands of Palestinian and Israeli civilians to death by vetoing a resolution calling for a ceasefire, said the first deputy permanent representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, Tass agency reported.

“Our American colleagues have condemned thousands, if not tens of thousands, more civilians in Palestine and Israel, including women and children, to death, along with UN workers trying to help them. History will judge what Washington has done,” he said.

“Many beautiful, but empty words can be said about democracy, human rights, peace, security, some rules and order, but today we learned the true value of these words because two members of the UN Security Council wanted to remain accomplices in the brutal Israeli massacre,” said the Russian diplomat.

Earlier, the US vetoed a UN Security Council resolution submitted by the United Arab Emirates, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Thirteen of the 15 UN Security Council members, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the resolution, while Great Britain abstained.

The resolution calls for a ceasefire and the release of all hostages and urges the parties to the conflict to comply with international humanitarian law.
