(Patria) - Russia will halt gas supplies to Austria today, the company OMV announced yesterday.
OMV stated that it received a letter from Gazprom Export, a subsidiary of the Russian state energy giant Gazprom.
The halt in supplies is considered a reaction to an arbitration ruling according to which Gazprom must pay OMV 230 million euros.
Austria is still heavily dependent on Russian gas, and the suspension of transit follows the ruling of the Austrian arbitration court from Thursday.
According to that ruling, Russian Gazprom must pay the Austrian energy and chemical company OMV 230 million euros due to irregular supplies and the complete suspension of gas delivery to Germany.
