Russia retaliated for the attack in the Kursk region, also using vacuum bombs

(Patria) - Russia announced a so-called counter-terrorism operation "to increase "security" in the border region of Kursk, where an incursion by Ukrainian forces this week surprised Russian troops and revealed their military vulnerabilities in the nearly two-and-a-half-year war.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that fighting continues in the Kursk region and that the army carried out airstrikes against Ukrainian forces, including the use of a thermobaric bomb, also known as a vacuum bomb, which creates a shockwave and generates a vacuum that suffocates targets.

The measures announced for Kursk, as well as for the neighboring regions of Belgorod and Bryansk bordering Ukraine, allow the government to relocate residents, control telephone communications, and requisition vehicles.

The incursion that began on Tuesday is the largest cross-border raid of the war and raises concerns that the fighting could spread far beyond Ukraine.
