Russia retaliates: Ban on imports from Montenegro

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has sent a proposal to the Government of Montenegro for a list of banned products for import from seven more countries, including Montenegro and Albania, Itar Tas reports, as carried by the Patria News Agency.

"The Ministry of Agriculture has considered the issue of the list of banned products. We have not considered which countries the ban would apply to. That is a matter for the Russian government. We have sent our proposals to the government," said a representative of the ministry.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that the government is considering a list of countries from which imports will be banned.

"We are actively considering this issue. It goes without saying that all those who have imposed sanctions on us should face countermeasures, i.e., a food embargo," he said.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said last week that it is possible that the list of countries to which Russia will impose an import embargo will be expanded.

According to the Russian agency, he said this after Montenegro, Albania, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Ukraine, and Georgia decided to extend the sanctions imposed by the EU on Russia.
