(Patria) - From January 25, 2021, the import of pears from the Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity of Republika Srpska is temporarily banned, it was announced on the website of the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service of Russia – Rosselkhoznadzor.
It is further stated that during negotiations on 12/21/2020, Russian officials informed BiH representatives that during controls, a "systematic identification" of pears infected with brown rot (Monilla fructicola) imported into Russia from the BiH entity of Republika Srpska was recorded.
At that time, the BiH side was informed that in case of repeated violations of import rules, the Russian side would be forced to introduce restrictive measures.
"However, during the phytosanitary control of pear shipments from the RS entity, three cases of contamination with brown rot, a quarantine pest, were identified again," the announcement further states.
It is further stated that, considering the aforementioned circumstances, and in order to preserve phytosanitary security and prevent the introduction of this dangerous quarantine pest, Rosselkhoznadzor considered it necessary to introduce a temporary ban on imports.
"Pear shipments dispatched from the RS entity by 01/25/2021 are subject to import only based on the results of laboratory tests for a whole range of quarantine pests typical for these products," the Rosselkhoznadzor announcement states.
