
(Patria) – The Russian army, by order of President Vladimir Putin, will begin delivering medical aid to Italy on Sunday to help the country in its fight against the coronavirus, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.
Putin offered assistance during a phone call with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
The aid will consist of disinfection vehicles and experts who will assist the most affected Italian regions.
Italy recorded a sharp increase in deaths on Saturday, with almost 800, bringing the total death toll to 5,000.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced that military transport planes will begin delivering eight mobile brigades of military medical personnel, special disinfection vehicles, and other equipment on Sunday.
Russia has recorded 306 cases of the virus, mostly in Moscow, as well as one death, Reuters reports.
