(Patria) - The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that its air defense units shot down 220 Ukrainian drones over a nine-hour period, including 24 that were heading towards Moscow, Reuters reported last night.
The ministry's latest statement said that 53 drones were intercepted and destroyed in a three-hour period ending at 11 PM (8 PM GMT).
Many drones were intercepted over regions in central Russia. The ministry stated that twelve drones targeted the Russian capital.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, writing on Telegram, said that 27 drones were shot down as they were heading towards the city, starting around 5 PM.
