Russia, Turkey and Iran Reach Agreement on Establishing Safe Zones in Syria

Another round of peace talks on Syria is being held in the Kazakh capital of Astana, reports Patria.

The three main factors in the Syrian war, Turkey, Russia, and Iran, have managed to agree on establishing security zones in some parts of Syria.

After signing the memorandum on safe zones, a part of the Syrian opposition demonstratively left the talks.

The US welcomed the achievement of such an agreement, but expressed reservations about the memorandum because, in their opinion, they distrust Iran.

Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Abrakhamov stated that a new round of talks on Syria will be held in July, again in Astana.

The Syrian war has been ongoing for six years, claiming the lives of nearly half a million people, while around ten million people have had to leave their homes. Some of them have left Syria, while the majority are internally displaced.

International officials have been trying to find a solution to the Syrian crisis for years, but there are completely opposing views between the world's major powers, primarily America and Russia.

Russia supports Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, while the US believes he is most responsible for the war in Syria and must step down from power.
