Russia: Trump's stance offers hope for resolving the Ukrainian conflict

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump's stance offers hope for a potential diplomatic resolution to the Ukrainian conflict, said Anton Mazur, a member of the Russian delegation at security and arms control talks in Vienna, TASS reported.

"The results of Donald Trump's efforts and his position instill some hope for a potential diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian conflict, unless, of course, the 'champions' of the rules-based order interfere in the negotiation process. In this context, the continuous belligerent rhetoric of some officials, who seek to fuel jingoistic hysteria, causes concern in European society," Mazur said.

"The rhetoric of an arms race, military psychosis, and the logic of confrontation do not strengthen, but undermine the security of EU countries, making their involvement in a full-scale conflict a real possibility. At the same time, we have never threatened any European country, and in our national security policy, we prefer to assess the capabilities and concrete actions of our opponents," he added.

Earlier, the United States proposed a 28-point plan for an Ukrainian settlement, which caused dissatisfaction in Kyiv and among its partners in Europe, who significantly adapted it. On November 23, the United States and Ukraine held consultations on the plan, TASS reported.

According to RBC-Ukraine agency, the delegations agreed on most of the program proposed by Washington, but some key points were left for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the date of which has yet to be determined. Later, Trump said that the number of points in the plan had decreased from 28 to 22.

According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Moscow has a 28-point document and has not seen any other version. He says Russia expects Washington to inform Moscow about the results of consultations with Kyiv and the European Union, TASS reported.
