Russia tests new underwater nuclear drone

US intelligence sources reveal that Russia has conducted a test of a revolutionary unmanned nuclear submarine, reports the British Independent, according to Patria.

Unnamed Pentagon officials said the underwater drone was launched on November 27, but did not indicate whether the launch was successful.

Pentagon spokesperson, Captain Jeff Davis, told the Washington Free Beacon that the US military is "closely monitoring the development of the situation regarding the underwater operations of the Russian military," but declined to comment on the test itself.

As its relations with the West deteriorate, Russia is intensifying its nuclear technology development.

Talk of the existence of the nuclear submarine began in September, and the official confirmation from the Russian military arrived two months later.

US intelligence agencies claim that the submarines, which the Pentagon codenames "Kanyon," are equipped with "the largest nuclear weapons in existence."

Last October, the Russian military released photos of the largest nuclear missiles ever, said to be powerful enough to destroy an entire country.

The new generation of Sarmat RS-28 missiles is designed to replace the outdated SS-18 Satan arsenal, originally adopted by the Soviet Union in 1974.

Tensions between Russia and the West have not been higher since the Cold War.

On Friday, sources close to the CIA revealed to US media such as the Washington Post that the Kremlin attempted to support Trump's victory by leaking information that harmed Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

They further state that Russian hackers, backed by state authorities, caused the leak of information from the Democratic National Committee, but that although they obtained similar information from the Republican National Committee, they did not provide it to WikiLeaks, according to the Independent's report.
