Russia condemns Israel's attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus

(Patria) - Moscow accused Israel of carrying out an "unacceptable" attack on a diplomatic building in Syria, after airstrikes destroyed the consular annex of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Reuters reported.

"On the evening of April 1, the Israeli Air Force attacked the building of the Iranian consulate in
Damascus," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"We strongly condemn this unacceptable attack on the Iranian consular representation in Syria," they added.

Israel has not commented on the attack. Syrian and Iranian officials have accused Israel of the attack.
Moscow stated that any attacks on a diplomatic building are "unacceptable".

"We call on the Israeli leadership to stop provocative acts of armed violence against the territory of Syria and neighboring countries," the Russian ministry announced.

A top commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was among eight people reported killed in the attacks amid escalating regional tensions.

Iranian officials have vowed a strong response.
