(Patria) - Russia on Wednesday accused Turkey of failing to adhere to obligations from the agreement on a demilitarized zone in the Syrian province of Idlib, and of supporting militants instead.
Russia's state news agency RIA quoted Russia's defence minister as saying that 'terrorist' reinforcements had linked up with Turkish forward positions in Idlib, leading to daily attacks on Russia's Hmeimim air base in Syria, Reuters reported.
A Russian spokesperson also stated that Turkey had mobilized a number of soldiers in Idlib corresponding to a mechanized division, thereby violating international law.
The Russian side's accusations come a day before a scheduled meeting in Moscow between Presidents Erdogan and Putin, aimed at de-escalating tensions between the two countries on the Syrian battlefield.
