Russia approves outpatient therapy for mild and moderate COVID-19 cases

(Patria) – The Russian Ministry of Health has approved two new antiviral treatments for patients with mild or moderate clinical picture of coronavirus infection, which only confirms that Russia is doing its utmost to take global leadership in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Russia is already exporting coronavirus tests and has also reached several international agreements for the supply of the Sputnik V vaccine.

The pharmaceutical company R-Pharm announced on Friday that the drug Coronavir could be available in Russian pharmacies as early as next week, after being approved based on three phases of clinical trials on 168 COVID-19 patients.

Earlier in May, another Russian drug was approved for use in treating COVID-19 patients; it is the drug Avifavir, which, like Coronavir, belongs to the favipiravir family developed in Japan.

The state Russian news agency Tass reports that both drugs were previously approved for inpatient treatment, and can now also be used on an outpatient basis.
