Russia: We could attack British military facilities if London's threats materialize

(Patria) - Russia has the right to attack British facilities in Ukraine and beyond, if London's threats that Kyiv can carry out attacks with British weapons on Russian territory materialize, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS.

„If such a scenario is implemented, our country, Russia, reserves the right to respond accordingly, that is, to consider as targets British facilities located both in Ukraine and outside its borders: military facilities, weapons, and so on,“ Zakharova said.

She described the remark by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron that London considers it legitimate for Kyiv to use British weapons for attacks on Russian territory as „something absolutely insane“.

„This statement is not only illegitimate, but also illogical, because Britain itself not so long ago stated literally the opposite,“ Zakharova said.

„You remember how the controversy evolved. This statement first appeared in the news feed of a British news agency. Then, after being there for two hours, it was removed. The entire article with Cameron's statements was removed,“ Zakharova said.

„A few hours later, apparently after some verbal battles that, I am sure, took place at 10 Downing Street, the Foreign Office, and the Reuters headquarters itself, it was decided not to sacrifice the reputation of the British agency and to publish the phrase that was actually uttered.“

„We reacted immediately. An appropriate response was presented to the world through diplomatic channels.

The ambassador was summoned. In fact, Russia not only summoned him for a reprimand, but absolutely
unequivocally responded to the British ambassador regarding the statements in question,“ she added.

On Monday, British Ambassador to Russia Nigel Casey was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. He was protested against regarding Cameron's recent statement in an interview with Reuters about Ukraine's right to attack Russian territory with British weapons. Casey was warned that the response to Ukrainian strikes carried out with British weapons on Russian territory could be directed against any British military facilities and equipment in Ukraine and elsewhere.
