Russia has conducted its first airstrikes in Syria, targeting opponents of Bashar al-Assad's regime, US officials announced, reports the Patria News Agency.
The strikes were carried out in the area around the city of Homs, and Washington was informed in advance that this would happen.
The British BBC highlights that this development comes after Syrian President Assad officially requested air support from Russia.
- We hope that Russia's efforts to help the Syrian forces' operation in the fight against terrorism, with the participation of our other partners, will make it possible to change the situation in Syria in a certain period, the Kremlin stated, writes B92.
