Russia: Iran has not requested weapons, Washington and Tel Aviv are trying to drag Arabs into a war for someone else's interests

(Patria) - The Kremlin stated today that Iran has not contacted Moscow with a request for weapons and that Russia's stance on this issue is well-known, accusing the United States and Israel of trying to drag Arab countries into a wider Middle Eastern conflict.

Last year, Iran signed a 20-year strategic partnership agreement with Moscow, Russia is building two new nuclear reactors in Bushehr, the site of Iran's only nuclear power plant, and Iran has supplied Russia with Shahed-type drones for use against Ukraine.

When asked by journalists whether Russia intends to provide material assistance to Iran, including arms supplies, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "In this case, there have been no requests from the Iranian side. Our consistent position is well known to everyone and there have been no changes in this regard."

Russia has condemned the US-Israeli attacks and called for an immediate ceasefire against the country with which it has grown closer in recent years.

The Kremlin claims that these two countries are provoking Iran to attack targets across the region, stating that there are no signs that Washington and Tel Aviv will back down.

Gulf Arab states, all close allies of the US, some of which also have close ties with Russia, have come under Iranian drone and missile attacks since the United States and Israel launched air strikes on Iran on Saturday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with the leaders of four Gulf Arab states on Monday. In the conversation, he offered to use his connections with Iran to convey concerns about Tehran's attacks on oil infrastructure across the region.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday that it accused the US and Israel of deliberately trying to drag Gulf Arab states into a wider conflict.

"They deliberately provoked Iran into retaliatory attacks on targets in some Arab countries, which led to human and material losses, for which the Russian side deeply regrets," the ministry said.

"By doing so, they (Washington and Tel Aviv) are trying to drag the Arabs into a war for someone else's interests."
