(Patria) - Russia and Ukraine exchanged 146 prisoners of war each today, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.
"Today, August 24, 146 Russian soldiers returned from the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime," the Ministry announced on Telegram.
The Ministry added that "146 Ukrainian prisoners of war were handed over in exchange," thanks to the mediation efforts of the United Arab Emirates.
"Eight residents of the Russian border region of Kursk, who were illegally held by Ukraine, were also handed over to Russia," the Ministry stated.
The exchange of prisoners and bodies of fallen soldiers is one of the last areas where Moscow and Kyiv continue to cooperate, more than three and a half years after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The two warring sides have exchanged thousands of prisoners this year, in accordance with agreements reached during three rounds of negotiations in Istanbul from May to July.
