
(Patria) - Russian agency TASS announced that Russia will begin an observation flight over Bosnia and Herzegovina today, which will last until Friday, May 17. Observation flights over BiH have previously been conducted by Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, as well as some other countries.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the 34 signatory states to the Agreement, which implies control over the military activities of the signatory countries.
Russian media state that a group of Russian inspectors will also conduct an observation flight over the USA, which began on May 12 and will last until May 20. American experts in the Russian aircraft will control compliance with the Agreement regarding the use of reconnaissance equipment and the provisions of the same agreement.
The Open Skies Treaty was signed by representatives of 27 countries in Helsinki on March 24, 1992. The treaty currently has 34 OSCE member states.
The data collected becomes common property, meaning all signatory countries can access the collected data, reports NAP.
