SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Russian NGO OVD-Info, which reports on arrests during opposition protests in the country, announced today that its website has been blocked by the Russian media regulator, in light of growing repression against the opposition.
The organization, which also provides legal support to victims of political persecution, announced that the media regulator Roskomnadzor blocked the website at the beginning of the week.
"We have not yet received a notification and do not know the reason for our blockade," the NGO stated on Twitter.
A court in the Moscow region made a decision on December 20 to "restrict" access to the website.
The OVD-Info website was not available to AFP journalists in Russia today.
This move represents one in a series of measures against critical voices towards the authorities. One of these moves is the arrest of Alexei Navalny, who is considered the main opponent of the Kremlin.
