(Patria) - A 240-meter television tower in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv was cut in half and collapsed to the ground yesterday after a Russian missile attack, local officials claim.
The broadcast signal was disrupted in Ukraine's second-largest city, which has been targeted by Russian missiles and drones in recent weeks.
- At this moment, there are interruptions in the digital television signal - said regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, adding that there were no casualties because workers were in shelters.
Footage from the scene shows the main mast of the tower snapped and fell as a cloud of smoke rose into the sky.
A Russian air attack has just taken out the Kharkiv TV tower, according to regional head Oleh Syniehubov. He says no victims, workers were sheltering during the attack. The footage does not make clear what struck the tower, but officials from Kharkiv said Russia likely used a Kh-59 cruise missile in the attack.
Russia attacked the television tower in Kharkiv for the first time in early March 2022, shortly after launching its invasion. The signal was interrupted at that time.
Moscow has recently intensified its attacks, as Ukraine struggles with insufficient air defense capabilities. Kharkiv and the surrounding region have experienced the heaviest attacks.
