(Patria) - A large number of Russians and Ukrainians have come to live in Serbia since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Estimates are that this number is around 50,000. They mostly come to Belgrade and larger cities.
While some of them are buying real estate, others have decided to rent properties. However, all of this has disrupted the market itself, and prices have increased by 50 percent or more.
In Facebook groups where apartment ads can be posted, Ukrainians and Russians offer up to 700 euros per month for an apartment for a longer period, which creates problems for students and other people living in rented apartments.
A large number of Russians and Ukrainians have opened bank accounts, and over 1,000 companies, mostly in the IT sector, owned by Russian passport holders have been registered with the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.
Real estate agents state that rents in Belgrade are now twice as expensive as they were before the Russian aggression.
One ad is looking for a studio apartment up to 500 euros per month in or near the center of Belgrade due to the need to register residency at the address.
