(Patria) – The suspect in the murder in the town of Caracal in southern Romania has confessed to killing two girls.
Gheorghe Dinca (65), employed as a mechanic, has been detained on suspicion of killing Alexandra Macesanu (15), who was last seen at the beginning of last week, and Luiza Melencu (18), whose disappearance was reported back in April.
His lawyer told reporters that Dinca confessed to the murder of both girls.
Alexandra Macesanu called the emergency number three times to report that she had been kidnapped by a man while hitchhiking on her way to her village.
Due to poor technology and attempts to obtain unnecessary warrants for the case, it took the police 19 hours to locate her and enter Dinca's house.
During the investigation, it was determined that both girls were kidnapped while hitchhiking on their way home, as public transport is a ubiquitous problem in Romania.
The case has caused great public outrage and led thousands of Bucharest citizens to gather in protests against the police.
Romania's Minister of Internal Affairs, Nicolae Moga, dismissed Police Chief Ioan Buda, as well as several other responsible police officers due to this case.
