(Patria) - The comprehensive partnership agreement between Russia and Iran will cover the sphere of defense and security, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in an interview with TASS.
"As for the content of the mentioned fundamental document, I would prefer not to disclose details earlier. I would only note that it will respond to the challenges and demands of our time and cover almost all current and prospective areas of Russian-Iranian cooperation, including defense and security," Rudenko said.
A similar document from 2001 contained relevant provisions in a more concise manner, Rudenko said.
"The nature of interaction has changed significantly over the past two decades, with a completely different dynamics and quality," he emphasized.
"The regional situation has also not become simpler. We closely coordinate approaches with our Iranian friends and take necessary measures to strengthen peace and security," he added.
The comprehensive strategic partnership agreement should become the most important stage in the development of bilateral relations. The document will cover all areas of bilateral cooperation, including energy, industry, transport and agriculture, TASS reports.
