Rubio and Vance held a meeting with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and Greenland

(Patria) - President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding reaching an agreement on Greenland, following high-level meetings between US officials and the Danish and Greenlandic Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Reuters reported.

"I think something will be worked out," Trump said regarding Greenland, which he described as "very important for national security, including Denmark".

The comments came after the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and Greenland met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House. According to reports, fundamental differences between the parties regarding the Arctic territory still exist.

Trump emphasized US military capabilities as a key factor in the talks, stating that Denmark would not be able to defend Greenland from potential Russian or Chinese occupation.

"The problem is that Denmark can't do anything about it if Russia or China wants to occupy Greenland, but we can do everything," he said.

Trump mentioned recent events concerning Venezuela as proof of US military might, saying: "You learned that last week with Venezuela."

Despite ongoing disagreements, Trump claimed that the United States has a "very good relationship with Denmark," while also asserting that "you can't rely on Denmark" regarding Greenland's security. He added: "We need it," referring to the strategically important Arctic territory.

Trump indicated that he would be informed of the outcome soon.
