Rubik's Cube Symbol of Hungarian EU Presidency

(Patria) - The Rubik's Cube has been chosen as the symbol for Hungary's six-month presidency of the European Union.

With its 27 small cubes, corresponding to the number of EU member states, the famous puzzle is part of the "optics" of the Hungarian presidency, which has just begun.

It embodies the spirit of innovation and problem-solving - stated Hungarian Ambassador to Paris Georges Habsbourg-Lorraine.

Hungarian Ernő Rubik (79), a sculptor and professor of architecture, invented the award-winning toy in 1974 and became rich from its worldwide sales.

It has inspired books, championships, and even a cartoon.

The Hungarian presidency began on July 1 and lasts until the end of the year.
