Risky Jobs in the Sundarbans Forests: Bengal Tigers Kill Honey Hunters Every Year

Collecting honey in the Sundarbans forests, a national park that stretches on both sides of the border between Bangladesh and India, is one of the riskiest jobs in the world - besides the danger posed by bees and snakes in the forests, Bengal tigers kill young honey hunters every year, who support their families this way, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

Hunters from villages scattered throughout the Sundarbans forests are aware of the danger they expose themselves to by going for honey deep into the forests, but they say that during the month of June, when the honey collection season begins, they earn almost as much as they would need for six months doing other jobs.

Most of the residents of these villages are Muslims, so before heading into the forests, the hunters organize special prayers, asking God to help them return safely to their families.

Over the years, hunters have noticed that Bengal tigers always attack their prey from behind, so they now place masks - plastic faces on the back of their heads to deter the tiger from sneaking up on them. Sometimes it works, but not always, reports NAP.
