Analysis Results: Will the Central Kitchen in Mojmilo Reopen?

The results of the analyses of swabs and stool samples taken from employees of the Central Kitchen of JU „Djeca Sarajeva“, conducted by the KS Public Health Institute, will be known on Friday, May 8, 2015. Based on these results, the KS Sanitary Inspection will make a decision on opening or extending the ban on the operation of the Central Kitchen in Mojmilo, writes the BH news agency Patria.

We remind you that on April 22, 15 children from JU "Djeca Sarajeva" reported to KCUS with symptoms of food poisoning. As the initial food tests showed, salmonella was found in pasta with eggs and cream and spinach, which the children ate on April 20 and 21. The inspection also issued a Decision banning the sale of food of animal origin to the company “Gold mignon”, the food supplier for JU “Djeca Sarajeva”. Namely, as determined during the inspection, this company is not registered for the storage and distribution of products of animal origin.

By order of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs dated April 24, the Central Kitchen was closed, as was the kindergarten „Lastavica“, from which 69 children reported to KCUS out of a total of 217 who suffered food poisoning. Of this number, 55 children were kept in hospital treatment.

Since then, the children have been on a dry food diet with the option of instant soup. However, the parents of the children are already at the end of their patience. They state that the children can no longer eat dry food and the same soup every day.

- This agony has been going on for too long. We are deprived of information, and our children are condemned to eat only bread with spread – said one of the parents, on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, while awaiting the final results of the analyses of the Central Kitchen employees, as stated to Patria by the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs, sanitary inspectors are continuing comprehensive inspection of all kindergartens of JU „Djeca Sarajeva“.

- We expect the control process to be completed by the end of this month. Given that the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton has also become involved in the case of poisoning of children from JU “Djeca Sarajeva”, all documentation related to this matter, held by the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of KS, is being submitted to that body for appropriate proceedings – said the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs.

Parents, according to information obtained by Patria, are considering filing criminal charges regarding the poisoning of children in JU Djeca Sarajeva.
