(Patria) - Iran will completely close the strategic Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump carries out threats to attack Iranian energy facilities, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Sunday.
Trump threatened on Saturday to "destroy" Iranian power plants if Tehran does not fully open the strait within 48 hours, representing a significant escalation of the conflict that has entered its fourth week, writes Reuters.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Revolutionary Guard also stated that companies with US ownership stakes will be "completely destroyed" if Washington attacks Iranian energy facilities. They also warned that energy facilities in countries hosting US military bases will become "legitimate" targets.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also commented, stating that threats and terror against Iran only further unite the country, after Trump threatened an attack on Iranian energy facilities.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian said that Iran will "resolutely oppose insane threats on the battlefield".
He also added that the Strait of Hormuz is "open to everyone, except for those who violate our territory".
