Revision of Verdict: What Stanišić Answered Mladić, Where Perišić Was During Genocide

In his war diary, Hague indictee Ratko Mladić noted in July 1995 that he complained to Jovica Stanišić about lacking troops for certain tasks. Stanišić then told him, "I'm sending you 80 excellent men from Đeletovci," writes Patria.

- Those excellent men were the Scorpions. They weren't just thugs, but men sent to Ratko Mladić by the then-Chief of State Security, Jovica Stanišić. Stanišić is not the only Serbian official Mladić mentions in his notes. General Perišić was staying at the Han Pijesak military complex, where Mladić was based during the Srebrenica operation. When you have such information, it's hard to believe that Serbia had no involvement in what was happening, said Dejan Anastasijević, a journalist for Vrijeme magazine, in a TV report for Belgrade's B92. He had access to Mladić's notes, which show that Serbia's involvement in the wars in Bosnia and Croatia is greater than Serbia would like to admit.

Eighteen volumes were seized during the search of Mladić's family home in December 2008. Serbian authorities handed Mladić's diary to Hague investigators on February 25, 2009, and it arrived in The Hague on March 2.

Along with the notebooks, dozens of video recordings of meetings and celebrations in which Mladić participated during the period covered by Jovica Stanišić's indictment (1991-95) were allegedly seized from the apartment.

The notebook also contains records from meetings between Mladić, Stanišić, and other high-ranking political and military leaders with the then-President of Serbia, Slobodan Milošević, held between January 27 and September 5, 1995. The Hague prosecution explained in its request to the Trial Chamber that the notes from these meetings illustrate close cooperation between the participants in a joint criminal enterprise.

Will Mladić's diary and the notes meticulously kept by this Hague indictee and general of the Army of Republika Srpska be used in filing a request for the revision of the verdict of Bosnia and Herzegovina against Serbia before the International Court of Justice in The Hague? The deadline expires at the end of this month.
