Reuters: US military preparing for possible multi-week operation against Iran

(Patria) - The US military is preparing for a possible multi-week operation against Iran if President Donald Trump orders an attack.

Two officials, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the matter, told the news agency that this would further increase the stakes in diplomatic negotiations between the US and Iran.

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will participate in negotiations with Iran on Tuesday in Geneva, with the mediation of Oman's representatives.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned yesterday that although Trump prefers to reach an agreement with Tehran, "it is very difficult to achieve".

Meanwhile, Trump has increased military presence in the region, which has raised fears of new military action.

The Americans have sent another aircraft carrier, thousands of soldiers, fighter jets, guided-missile destroyers, and other equipment that can be used for attack, as well as defense.

Addressing US soldiers in North Carolina, Trump openly mentioned the possibility of regime change in Iran, saying that "it looks like it would be the best thing that could happen".

He did not specify who should take power in Iran, only saying that "there are people".

"For 47 years, they have only talked and talked and talked," Trump said.
